Traveling To Fable's Veil - Part 2

Quietly Levi snuck back into the room.  She couldn't see, but the fact the area had fallen silent led her to believe the Xorasi was asleep.  They were going to be doing a lot of walking later, so might as well let the little critter rest before beginning their hike.

While the critter slumbered, she needed to pack for the trip and for once in her life, she knew exactly what she needed to do.  It was going to be a long and grueling journey, so she didn't want to be weighed down by a bunch of hefty bags.  She wanted all of three things, the offering for Fable’s Shrine, a book that would help one identify edible berries found within the Vail, and a sturdy bag that would keep those items safe during their travels.  Luckily for her, all of these were things that she had purchased in preparation for Featide, since it was not the first time she had considered making this journey.

Unluckily for her, she would now need to find them…  Her little sleeping quarters was a wreck, books stacked into piles that could tower over her, quills lay unorganized on her desk, and enchanted items floating in aimless circles around the ceiling fan.  She had an idea where the bag was, tucked away in a drawer where she kept things she didn't know what to do with.  The book, on the other paw, she had absolutely no idea where she put it.  If she had to guess, it was probably in one of her piles or buried under a mound of scrolls.

Levi began to feel that heaviness in her gut.  This had turned into a needle in a haystack!  How many books would she need to go through to find the one she needed?  Would she even be able to find it?  What if it was lost forever? How foolish she was to not take better care of her stuff.  Her legs began to tremble and her breaths quickened.  Tears started to swell up in her eyes.

“Baaarrrkkk!”

The sudden noise shot Levi out of her trance.  The Xorasi had awoken and was now standing next to her, excitedly wagging its tail.

She reached out to pet the critter, it's soft fur felt soothing on her trembling claw.  “I, I don’t know where I put the book, and I’m not sure what to do.”  The Xorasi tilted its head at her curiously, before running into her pile and grabbing a large leathery book.  It delicately laid the item at her feet, where she picked it up to take a closer look.

Was it seriously that easy?  There is no way it could be that easy.  She thought in amazement while staring at a deep green book, with a forest etched onto its cover.  The title read, “How to Spot Edible Fruit in The Vail - A Survival Guide.”

“Baaarrrkkk”, excitedly yelled the Xorasi.  It jumped up into the air before running to the door.  Still in shock, all Levi could do was stare.  How in the universe did it find that book and how did it do it so quickly?  She probably would have stayed frozen for a few more seconds, had the Xorasi not begun clawing at the door, in an attempt to escape.

“Wait”, Leviathan cried, “I still need to pack the bag, I need you to be patient just a little longer.” The Xorasi looked back at her with an expression of annoyance and disappointment before sitting back down.

Levi, ran over to the desk where she kept the offering, gently placing it in her mouth, before heading to the drawer she had last seen her bag.  She found it behind scattered clothes and rags, but it was there, ready to go on an adventure.  She threw the book right in, before carefully placing the offering in a separate pocket, one which had a zipper she could use to keep it secure and safe from any potential bad weather.  The bag was relatively lightweight and Levi knew that she had made the right decision packing gently.  She hardly felt it once it had been strapped to her back and while most bags would have slowed her down, this one barely restricted her movements.

She looked back to the Xorasi while approaching the door.  “You ready, we have a long way ahead of us?”  The Xorasi ran a few laps around her before bolting out the now-opened door.  “Hold on!”  She yelled while trying to catch up with her fluffy companion.
